Some special people from Puerto Natales.

Sras. Maria, Sarah, Denise with myself on the right. Outside Sra.Maria’s house, Puerto Natales, March 2016.

Sra. Maria, and Sarah, who as I mentioned, rescued Keira after she was hit by a truck and got her well again. I remember being told, it was highly likely that Keira would never walk again, but just like a miracle, after about a month, without even an operation, she did begin to walk again.

Both Sra. Maria and Sarah rescue and care for many abandoned cats and dogs in Natales. They are also involved in sterilization programs for strays,  always working in a quiet and unassuming way.

The other lady pictured above, who truly deserves a mention for her many years of volunteering work helping street dogs, is Sra. Denise. I first got to know Denise through CODDA (Corporacion de Defensa de los Derechos de los Animales) of Punta Arenas, Chile. It was through this organisation, where I also got to know Sra. Helia Tagle (the founder of CODDA), Hernan, Bruce and one of my best friends to this day, the wonderful Eleonor. Denise was the volunteer book keeper for CODDA, one of the nicest and most honest people I know. Denise is now retired and happily living in Puerto Natales with her ex street dog, Floppy.
